Washington, George

This collection includes notebooks, diaries, lectures, medical research papers, correspondence, photographs, plays, booklets, awards, and and memorabilia.

The George Washington Bicentennial Commission was a federally-chartered group charged with coordinating the celebration of the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth in 1932. This collection consists primarily of printed materials produced as part of the celebration. The materials are believed to have been collected by University President Cloyd Heck Marvin in association with his service as the head of the D.C. Committee for the George Washington Becentennial.

This artificial collection was created to manage documents that are too small to be separate collections of their own. Includes individual manuscripts, undated; Elbridge Colby's "The National Guard of the United States", 1903-1945; Book Arts Specimens, 1600 ca- 1850 ca.; Performing Arts Material, 1890-1980; Gay and lesbian publications, 1994-1998; Washingtoniana magazines, journals, and newsletters, 1879-1974; Washington associations, clubs, lodges, and societies, 1845-1948.
