General Operations and Correspondent Relationships, 1832-1854
Scope and Contents note
Consists of Corcoran and Riggs general ledgers detailing daily bank operations, including statements of condition and correspondent relationships with other banks. Unlike later general ledgers, these earlier books also include patron deposit and loan information, and far greater detail about bills payable and receivable. Several of the ledgers have corresponding indexes. Please see Record Group 1 Subgroup 2 Series 3 for general ledgers during 1853-1854. In addition, there is a ledger managing accounts of Riggs & Co./Riggs, Son & Co., an Elisha Riggs venture, and two Elisha Riggs letterpress books, which were included in the collection. This ledger and one of the letterpress books pre-date the establishment of Corcoran and Riggs. The business of Riggs & Co./Riggs, Son & Co. should not be confused with Riggs & Co., the successor bank to Corcoran and Riggs.
