Certificates of Stock, 1-500, 1896-1903
Scope and Contents note
Records the first 500 shares of Riggs Bank stock sold publicly. For every stock sold, there is a receipt. For most of these stocks a canceled certificate is attached. Each certificate is printed with an emblem of the old headquarters and Riggs Bank centered at header. The certificate is numbered, shows the shareholder, the amount of stock purchased and includes the signatures of Riggs president Charles Glover and Riggs cashier Arthur Brice. On the reverse side, the stock holder indicates to whom he is transferring stock and his attorney and signs the transfer. A witness also signs. Many of these certificates have stamps affixed to them.
