Series contains materials created as part of projects sponsored by the NEA or the NEA Foundation. The projects were often worked by or in partnership with other institutions, including member affiliates, unaffiliated education associations such as the Asociacion de Maestros de Puerto Rico, government agencies, universities,student groups, community groups and private companies such as IBM and the Carnegie Corporation. A number of different projects are included in the series. The prominent projects included in this series include campaigns to: push for federal tax and resource allocation reform, create a Department of Education, assess and restructure the NEA national headquarters, design an early NEA website, integrate technology into education, standardize job descriptions for educators, erect affordable housing for educators and retired educators, show the comparable inequity of educator salaries to similar careers, lower the voting age, and studies of crime and violence among student-age populations.

These projects cover a variety of topics, some of which are go beyond education, providing great insight into the NEA's work in diverse areas of American public life, including legislative and judicial campaigns on behalf of both educators and students as well as the changes brought to both the organization and to educators in general by technological changes of the late 20th century.

The files include action plans, affiliate histories, agendas, brochures, comic books, correspondence, 5 ¼ inch floppy disks, housing blueprints, marketing products, memos, minutes, pamphlets, project strategies, proposals, reports and surveys.

This collection is open for research. Some files are restricted. Those files flagged as restricted are subject to review by Special Collections staff before being made available for research. As researchers request materials, a review of the documents will take place. Staff will remove any documents with social security numbers, employee numbers or other sensitive identifying information. Any document found including this information is closed for 90 years from date of creation, or until verifiable proof of a person’s death is given. After these documents are removed the folder will be available for research. In some cases, items may be photocopied and redacted. The redacted copy will then be placed in the publicly available folder. All other materials in a folder will be freely available for immediate use and will be marked as having been reviewed by Special Collections staff. After folders have been reviewed using these procedures and the confidential materials have been removed, the restriction shall be lifted.
