 Collection
Identifier: MS2042

Scope and Content

The papers consist of 14 handwritten letters, as well as 14 pages from Adam M. Hallidy's diary. The collection is arranged chronologically from 1862 to 1865.

Twelve of the 14 letters are written by Hallidy to his girlfriend Maggie, who later became his wife. There is also one letter from her, as well as a letter from his brother, Bob. The letters and the diary deal with daily life and with Hallidy's experiences as a soldier. Of some note are his letters from October to December, 1862, as he writes from the hospital, after being transferred there with typhoid fever. He mentions missing the Battle of Antietam due to his illness.
