Historical or Biographical Note

Richard Harrington founded Woodwind following his time as a staff member of the Quicksilver Times. He wanted to create a paper that would reflect the creative talent within the Washington area community. The paper covered the arts community by publishing review, interviews, and original work. In its beginning the paper was not political, but as time went on the staff felt a need to speak out on the most significant political issues of the time. Specifically they began to address the issues of the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement in the United States.
