Scope and Contents
This collection contains programs, lists, a cd, meeting minutes, posters,and broadsides. These materials came to Special Collections from members of the dc poetry community. No one donation was enough for a stand-alone collection. This artificial collection was created by Special Collections staff to serve as one collection to store these materials with like content and subject matter. The collection was formed in 2013, but the material dates from 1968-2019.

Biographical / Historical
The Washington Writers' Archive (WWA) is a collecting area of the Special Collections Research Center. The WWA is meant to gather personal papers and organization's records to provide archival collections for in-depth study of the Washington literary community. The Washington Writers' Archive encompasses many personal papers of local dc poets as well as the records of reading series and publishing houses. The Splendid Wake was an event to bring together poets to share their memories of the DC poetry community. When DC poets have material to share that does not constitute a stand alone collection it will become part of this collection.

Much of the materials came to Special Collections from members of the dc poetry community. Not one donation were enough for a stand-alone collection. This collection was created by Special Collections staff as one location to store these materials with like content. This artificial collection was formed in 2013, but the material dates from 1968-2019.

Organized into 3 series: Records, Oversize records, and Reuben Jackson scrapbooks
Immediate Source of Acquisition
This artificial collection was started following the first Splendid Wake event September 25, 2013. It will be added to periodically by anyone who has material that document the dc poetry community, but not enough material to form an individual collection.
This collection will continue to receive donations. Reuben Jackson donated scrapbooks in 2023.
