This collection contains photographs and correspondence related to the writing of Washington Yours and Mine by Louise P. Latimer. The letters are from Ms. Latimer to various copyright holders seeking approval to publish an image in the book. The images are primarily of the built environment in the District. It is unknown if all of these images were used in the book. The images are not dated, but the book was published in 1924 making the images older than 1924. The letters date from 1921 through 1922.

During her research for Washington Yours and Mine, Latimer mentions making extensive use of the books, local newspapers, and clippings and pamphlet collections in the Washingtoniana division at the DC public library.

Biographical / Historical

Louise Payson Latimer (1878-1962) was an author and Director of Work for Children at the District of Columbia Public Library. She is the author of Your Washington and Mine and also Illustrators of Children's Books, 1744-1945. Ms. Latimer was the daughter of Thomas Wilmer and Mary Josephine Latimer, the sister of Adm. Julian Lane Latimer, Mary Jane Latimer, and John Wilmer Latimer.

The collection contains photographs and correspondence related to the writing of Washington Yours and Mine. The letters are from Ms. Latimer to various copyright holders seeking approval to publish an image in the book. The images are not dated, but the book was published in 1924 making the images older than 1924. The letters date from 1921 through 1922.

Arrangement

Arranged in orginal order. The photographs are often placed in front of a sheet of paper. This sheet of paper often has descriptive information and sometimes information about the photographer and/or image owner. The original order was maintain thus the page numbers often written on the sheets of paper do not correspond to the order of the materials.
