Scope and Contents

This collection contains a scrapbook created by Marian Herr Holbrook during her time as a student at the Mount Vernon College and Seminary. The scrapbook has photographs, pamphlets, newspaper articles, brochures and a graduation program. The scrapbook dates 1953-1954 and covers primarily a European trip taken by Marian and some of her Mount Vernon classmates. While on this trip the students attended celebratory events for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II June 2 1953. The trip also shows souvenirs from activities in England, France, Italy and Switzerland.

Biographical / Historical

Marian Herr Holbrook graduated from Mount Vernon Seminary and College in 1954. In 1986, she married Ret. Lt. Colonel Richard Word Roberson. Marian was Director of Leadership Development for the Izaak Walton League of America. She graduated from Wellsley College and Southern Methodist University. She also served on several boards including the Washington Cathedral Choral Society. Her father, Willard Ames Holbrook, Jr., was a Brigadier General in the United States Army. He served as the commander of Combat Command A of the 11th Armored Division during World War II. Her sister, Joanne Stanley Holbrook married George Patton IV. Marian's grandmother Anna Huntington Stanley, was an American immpressionist painter.
