Historical Note
The Director of University Relations at The George Washington University reports to the Vice President for Information and Administration Services, and oversees the issuing of news releases (1960-Present) and is responsible for numerous publications. Currently, these include By George (1989-Present), GW Magazine (1964-71; 1990-Present), President's Report, Community Commitments (1998, a bi-annual publication) and Guide to The George Washington University (1999, bi-annual publication). It also published Strength to Strength, a pictorial history of GW (1996), and, with the architecture office, the campus map. Past publications include: Alumni Review (1936-63), GWU Newsletter (1958-68), GWU Federalist (1954-63), Faculty Newsletter (1962-76), GW News (1968-71), GW Report (1982-89), GW Times (1972-89), Monday Report (1968-82), and GW in the News (1983-92). The office also maintains publicity files on staff and faculty. Before 1987, University Relations was known as the Public Relations Office.
