Nancy Sahli gay rights, Capitol Hill N.O.W, and related Washingtoniana papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains fliers, newsletters, articles, letters, postcards, and programs. These materials cover several diverse topics all under the overall subject of the history of Washington DC. These topics include women's rights including records of the Capitol Hill National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Sexuality Task Force, a sub-unit of the D.C. NOW chapter, as well as gay rights topics from Title 34 (D.C.'s law against discriminiation), National Gay Task Force, and materials related to the fight for gay rights in Dade County, Florida. The collection also incudes postcards and stereocards of d.c. sites and landmarks as well as a folder with programs for local music groups and events including The Washington Consort, Washington Bach Festival, The 20th Century Consort, The University of Maryland Chorus, The Choral Arts Society of Washington, and The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. Many of these events place primarily at churches in the city.

Biographical / Historical
Nancy Sahli served for 20 years on the staff of National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) in a variety of roles incuding archivist, a Grants Analyst, Director of the Records Program, Program Director, and Acting Executive Director. The NHPRC is the grant-making arm of the National Archives and Records Administration. Her articles related to archives have been published in the American Archivist and the Midwestern Archivist and include topics such as finding aids, and the format standard USMARC Archival and Manuscripts Control (AMC). Dr. Sahli is a fellow of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) which is one of the highest honors bestowed on individuals by SAA and is awarded for outstanding contributions to the archives profession. Dr. Sahli received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. The title of her dissertation is Elizabeth Blackwell, MD (1821-1910): a biography.
