Elizabeth J. Somers (1837-1924) founded the Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 1875. Mount Vernon Seminary and College merged with The George Washington University in 1999. Elsie Foerderer graduated from the Mount Vernon Seminary in 1909. She served as President of the Alumnae Association and an Alumna Trustee. She became a regular member of the Board of Trustees in 1936. The collection contains letters from Elsie to George Lloyd, Head of the College Division from 1932 to 1962 and President from 1936 to 1962, and Lloyd's wife, Olwen Lloyd. Mount Vernon Seminary and College was an all-women's high school and junior college founded in 1875 by Elizabeth J. Somers. The George Washington University initially affiliated with Mount Vernon College, and ultimately acquired the college's property and legacy in 1999. This collection contains the records of the Mount Vernon College Chapel. The artifacts and records date from 1931 to 1980, with the bulk of the material dating between 1963 and 1971.
