Collection contains audio cassettes, CD-ROMs, literary journals, anthologies, plays, video cassettes, and magnetic audiotape reels. These electronic audio and video recordings produced between 1976 and 2000s. The audio recordings are of famous primarily local poets that Grace Cavalieri interviewed on her radio program The Poet and the Poem and an earlier radio show titled Poetry from the City. These shows date from the middle 1970s through the present.

Abstract The Black Box, the cassette-tape poetry magazine, undertook an ambitious documentary project in 1975 to record all the working poets in the Washington area. The editors estimated that this amounted to between two and three hundred poets. A representative spectrum was chosen for a special D.C. issue of Black Box and to air on several radio programs.
