Abstract Collection includes original political cartoons from Washington newspapers; lithographic reproductions of other political cartoons; original pen and ink illustrations of civil war stories; scrapbooks containing original political cartoons, lithographic reproductions of cartoons, original sketches, and newspaper clippings; diaries; and loose sketches and photographs. These materials date from 1858-1896.
Abstract Luther Rice (1783-1836) is regarded as the founder of Columbian College, now The George Washington University. Collection include correspondence financial ledgers, log books. His papers include promissory notes, financial documents, college building appeal, Baptist Documents, notebooks, diaries and other records. The collection covers the twenty year period between 1812 and 1832.
